Bolton Handmade Christmas Markets

28th November & 5th, 12th & 19th December 2016

We were thrilled to have been given the opportunity to host 4 Handmade Markets at the Market Place Shopping Centre in the lead up to Christmas.

There were 20 stalls on display at each one with the 19th December being a festive food finale.

The feedback received from the public was all really positive and a few people recalled memories of the original market hall.

Stalybridge Handmade Market 21st November 2015

The countdown to Christmas most definitely started in Stalybridge last Saturday 21st November as over a thousand visitors flocked to the last Stalybridge Handmade Market of the year.

With almost 60 handmade craft & food stalls on display at the popular craft market and live music throughout the day it was certainly the festive spectacular it promised to be.  With the freezing temperatures yet winter sun streaming through the roof of the stunning Victorian market hall many shoppers had Christmas on their minds.  There was even something for the younger customers at this month's market with a Santa's grotto provided by market sponsors Florence & Amelias and a visit from Olaf and his festive friends.

We have been raising funds for Willow Wood Hospice all year by charging a small admission of 50p into the bi-monthly markets.  Another £580 was raised on Saturday taking the total raised this year to over £2500.  We are absolutely thrilled to have raised so much this year for Willow Wood and we've enjoyed working with John Fellowes and his team of volunteers and we're hoping it's a relationship we can maintain going forward.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every customer who has visited the market this year and also to all the talented makers who sell with us.

The future of the successful market, which has been running for 3 years in Stalybridge, is yet unknown.  We hope it can continue and TMBC provide the approval we need to run again next year.

Chorley Handmade Market - 7th November 2015

The second Chorley Handmade Market took place on Saturday 7th November at the beautiful Lancastrian Suite at Chorley Town Hall. Over 35 handmade craft & artisan food stalls took part in this market and despite the weather it really was a festive spectacle.

It was busy with customers from when the doors opened at 10am and people certainly had Christmas shopping on their minds.  Live music was provided throughout the day from Colette Todd and Chloe Jones which really added to the fantastic atmosphere.

There are plans to run the markets on a regular basis at the Town Hall venue throughout 2016 with the first market planned for Saturday 5th March.

Artisans at the Gallery - 31st October 2015

We were thrilled to have been approached by Stockport Council earlier this year and offered the opportunity to run our first "Artisans at the Gallery" event which took place on Saturday 31st October at Stockport Art Gallery.

Albeit one of our quieter events footfall wise were surprised by the response from each of our makers who showcased at the event.  It was clear we had our target audience right and customers really showed an appreciation for a handmade product.  The venue is absolutely beauitful and the perfect backdrop for one of our events.

We are in talks with Stockport Council to repeat this event next year with plans to promote further and wider to attract a higher footfall.

Leigh Handmade Market - 24th October 2015

The first Leigh Handmade Market took place at the Turnpike Gallery on Saturday 24th October and despite the horrendous downpours the gallery soon came alive with Christmas shoppers.

We are trialling lots of venues in and around the North West at the moment with a view to finding new regular market locations.  The Turnpike Gallery really does lend itself to these types of events and we were able to house around 30 handmade craft & food stalls this time with a view to doubling the size of the market if we were to run more markets there next year.

Watch this space for news of further events in 2016.

Stalybridge Handmade Market - 19th September 2015

The countdown to Christmas has certainly started in Stalybridge as hundreds of customers flocked to the Stalybridge Handmade Market on Saturday 19th September.

Over 50 stalls were on display at the popular craft market selling everything from handmade jewellery to traditional woodcraft and live music was performed by Maybe Frank and Chloe Jones.  The sun was shining in the stunning Victorian market hall but many shoppers had Christmas on their minds.

The market raises funds for Willow Wood Hospice by charging a small admission of 50p into the market.  MWL Events who run the market have now raised over £2000 which is an amazing result.  "We set ourselves a target of a total £3k to raise for this fabulous charity, and our final market of the year is always our busiest so we're hopeful!" said Katherine MWL Event's owner.

The market will return for the final time this year for a festive spectacular on Saturday the 21st November from 10am until 4pm. More live music performances are lined up and we've invited a couple of special guests along too!

Chorley Handmade Market - 5th September 2015

MWL Events hosted the first ever Chorley Handmade Market in the beautiful Lancastrian Suite at Chorley Town Hall on Saturday 5th September and it was a great success!

With around 30 makers, creators & food producers on display the hall was transformed into a handmade haven.  Around 400-500 visitors attended and the appreciation for handmade was evident with many customers leaving with bags full of goodies.

Sponsors of the market Fourtwographs were running free portrait photography sessions throughout the day which seemed to be very popular.

The Chorley Handmade Market will return to the venue on Saturday 7th November for a Christmas shopping spectacular with another 30+ handmade craft & food stalls lined up, live music performances and the bar will be open serving festive mulled wine!

There are plans to run the market regularly in 2016 - dates and times to be announced soon.

Stalybridge Handmade Market - 18th July 2015

After a month off Stalybridge Handmade Market returned to the beautiful old market hall in Stalybridge last Saturday 18th July and the atmosphere was electric!  The hall was buzzing from the word go and the many handmade craft & food stalls looked fabulous in the sunshine.  Colette Todd performed fabulous music from the 50's from 11am and customers and stallholders were seen bobbing in the aisles!

There were quite a few activities happening during the day including a chalk paint demonstration from Stalybridge based vintage shop Florence & Amelia's, who were sponsoring the event, and also a traditional woodworking demonstration from New Mills based B2GreenWoodworking.

We were excited to be back in our flagship venue and we're constantly amazed how popular this market has become.  It's a pity we're not able to run this market as often as we'd like as it's clear the demand is there.  Due to restrictions in place from TMBC we have only received approval to run our markets bi-monthly for the remainder of 2015.  We are as yet uncertain as to the future of this market and feel we have no option but to move our business out of the borough. We will however continue to run as long as we can in Stalybridge.

This month's market was the busiest so far this year and another £330 was added to the growing donation pot for the market's chosen charity Willow Wood Hospice.

The market will return to the Civic Hall on Saturday the 19th September from 10am until 4pm.

Westhoughton Handmade Market - 4th & 5th July 2015

We were asked by Bolton Markets Department earlier in the year to host a trial handmade market in the rear annexe of Westhoughton Market on the 4th & 5th of July as part of the town's Yarn Bombing Festival.  20 handmade craft makers and food producers took part in the 2 day market which was well attended and attracted additional footfall into the regular market which was open both days.  The festival played host to local celebrity performers The Houghton Weavers and other bands including The Travellin Strings and Maybe Frank also entertained the crowds.

Bolton Handmade Market - 7th June 2015

We hosted our second Bolton Handmade Market on Sunday 7th June in the Cloisters Suite at the Holiday Inn Bolton Centre.  Over 30 handmade craft and food stalls were on display and the sun was shining.

We had some new Bolton traders join us as well as some regulars from Stalybridge and the feedback we received about the stalls was fantastic and each and every person indicated they'd come again.  We appreciate that Bolton is a much bigger area to spread the word about our fabulous markets but hoping to build on this market in the future.

Unfortuntely we have decided to cancel the rest of the year's planned Bolton Handmade Markets as the venue just wasn't working for us.  We're working hard to find a suitable alternative venue but for now these markets are on hold.

Stalybridge Handmade Market - 16th May 2015

The latest Stalybridge Handmade Market took place on Saturday 16th May and despite the windy weather the beautiful old market hall came alive once again with over 50 local talented handmade crafters and food producers.  Live music was provided throughout the day by All My Ghosts and St John's Brass Band from Mossley who entertained the visitors with an hour of brass classics!

The market seemed quieter than usual but we still had reports of great sales from the traders.  We love that people visit our handmade markets to shop rather than browse.  We try to have a group of regular traders each month but it's always good to introduce new traders as well and they usually get a great response.  We had a lovely comment from one regular customer "this was by far the best handmade market I've visited yet!"

Admission into the market raised another £260 for this year's chosen charity Willow Wood Hospice taking the total raised so far to £1345 which is a really great amount!

The market will return to the Civic Hall on Saturday the 18th July from 10am until 4pm and there are plans to make this one a little bit different!

Stalybridge Handmade Market - 18th April 2015

It was the fabulous and now very popular Stalybridge Handmade Market last Saturday and it was quite the celebration!  Queues formed outside the market which opened at 10am as there were 100 goody bags up for grabs!  All the bags had gone by 10.30am and the atmosphere in the beautiful Victoria Market Hall was electric with a distinctive Alice in Wonderland theme running throughout the day.

It was exactly 2 years to the day since the first ever Stalybridge Handmade Market opened it's doors back in 2013 and MWL Events, the company behind the market, was founded.  There was another fantastic display of talent on show with over 50 stalls selling handmade crafts and locally produced food.  There was live music throughout the day from local teenagers Wez, Ben & Josie and at midday some very special guests dropped in to join in the celebrations in the form of Mad Hatter and White Rabbit courtesy of No Eyed Theatre.

Admission into the market raises funds for this year's chosen charity Willow Wood Hospice and Saturday's market raised another £360 taking the total raised so far this year to £1085 which is a really great amount!

It was such a lovely atmosphere with the sunshine streaming through the roof.  We wanted to do something different this time and make it a market we'd remember  and we did just that! The feedback we get at every market we run is always very positive and it's clear our visitors love this event.  With the introduction of a market policy by TMBC this year sadly our next market on the 16/5 will be the last monthly one.  From June this year we are being restricted to running just 3 markets which will take place on 18/7, 19/9 and 21/11.  We have plans on the horizon to launch our markets in other areas within the North West with Bolton already up and running.

The market will return to the Civic Hall on Saturday the 16th May from 10am until 4pm

Bolton Handmade Market - 29th March 2015

We hosted the very first Bolton Handmade Market on Sunday 29th March in the stunning venue that is the Cloisters Suite at the Holiday Inn Bolton Centre.  Over 30 handmade craft and food stalls were on display and despite the horrendous wintery weather lots of people visited the market to check out all the talent.

We're raising funds and awareness for The Jennifer Charity at these markets this year and it was fantastic to have Graham and James Edgington from the charity join us to conduct the official opening.

We are planning to run just 4 Bolton Handmade Markets this year and the next market is planned to take place on Sunday 7th June from 10am until 4pm.

Stalybridge Handmade Market - 21st March 2015

Stalybridge Handmade Market took place for the 2nd time this year last Saturday 21st March in the beautiful old market hall. The hall was buzzing with customers from opening at 10am and the sunshine was streaming through the roof creating the perfect backdrop.  Over 50 makers. creators and food producers sell at the regular handmade market, each month showcasing traders old and new.  Live music was provided by Colette Todd during the morning and in the afternoon making their debut performance at the market were local guitar duo Maybe Frank.

Another £375 was raised for Willow Wood Hospice on Saturday, taking the total so far this year to £725 and we're grateful to everyone who came along and supported the market and this great cause.

Due to the success of the handmade markets in Stalybridge MWL Events are spreading their wings and will be launching a brand new Handmade Market in Bolton this Sunday 29th March at the Holiday Inn Bolton Centre.  The market will run from 10am until 4pm.  There are 4 markets planned to take place at this venue and other venues in and around the North West are being sought.

The Stalybridge Handmade market will return to the Civic Hall on Saturday the 18th April from 10am until 4pm and there will be a few special surprises in store as we celebate the market's 3 year anniversary!

Stalybridge Handmade Market - 21st February 2015

The first Stalybridge Handmade Market of 2015 took place last Saturday 21st February at it's usual venue the Civic Hall!  The doors opened at 10am and the Civic Mayor of Tameside was in attendance to conduct the official opening.  There were over 50 handmade craft and food stalls in the market hall and despite the weather the hall soon started to buzz with activity.  Local guitar duo and regular performers at the market The Dollar Bombers provided live music throughout the day and local kids club and sponsors of the Handmade Market Grow Happy Childcare provided craft activities for the kids.

Subject to TMBC approval we hope to run a total of 9 handmade markets this year in Stalybridge and these will be on the 3rd Saturday of each month with the exception of August and December.  Now the first one of the year is done our aim is to secure approval for April & May before the next market on the 21st March.

Customers were thrilled to see the return of the market which was evident in the feedback forms which were collected "Great to see the Market Hall being used for local crafts!"

We've chosen Willow Wood Hospice to be our charity this year and will be raising funds by charging 50p admission into the Stalybridge Handmade markets. We raised £350 on Saturday and we are grateful to everyone who came along and supported the market and this great cause.

The market will return to the Civic Hall on the 21st March from 10am until 4pm.
